Oven Baked Tomatoes
To make oven baked tomatoes prepare them the same way, but add the cheese on first, with the oil, salt, and pepper. Place them on a middle rack in a 400ºF oven for 10-12 minutes. If you like the cheese to be a little golden, turn on the broiler for the last minute.
Modifications / Additions
Cheese - Parmesan and Mozzarella are the most common toppings, but slices of sharp cheddar, swiss, or gruyere also adds magic!
Mayo - Spread a thin layer of mayo instead of olive oil. Top with cheese and bread crumbs.
Bread crumbs or panko - Use 1/2 cup regular or gluten free bread crumbs to sprinkle on with the mozzarella or parmesan cheese.
Garlic - Use freshly minced, garlic powder, or garlic salt
Italian seasoning or other dried herbs, such as basil, oregano, or thyme
No cheese - Broiled or Baked Tomatoes are also perfect without cheese. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper for a simple side.
