This Essential Summer Lemonade Cocktail is my drink of choice during the easygoing summer months. These drinks always deliver exactly what I’m looking for – refreshing, not too sweet, thirst-quenching, and very simple to make. I come back to this perfect summer drink time and time again!
Talking yourself out of a vacation comes much easier than convincing yourself to take one. Who will watch the kids, take care of the pets, water the plants? I shouldn’t take the time off of work. I have too much to be done at home. We really shouldn’t spend the money.
Every adult, especially those with kids, fights through these nagging deterrents before committing to getting away.
How many of us regret taking the vacation while we are on it, though? Or more so, come home and reflect, Total bonehead move. Should have stayed home and collected my own newspaper every day.
You will always remember a trip, not what you did with the money saved from not going. For this reason, it doesn’t take a lot of arm twisting for me to commit to getting away. The tricky part is getting everyone else into that headspace.
Recently Ryan and I convinced my sister and her husband take a trip out to Colorado, where we all used to live. Since this trip didn’t involve our respective armies of tiny humans, it involved a little more finagling.
For five glorious days, we enjoyed the unencumbered freedom of only being responsible for ourselves. Under no circumstances, would a naked child stir us at 6:00AM for a booty wipe. Naturally that peace of mind can only lead to excessive drinking.
These Essential Summer Lemonade Cocktails made a strong appearance on our no-kid-baggage vacay. If we would have known how much Simply Lemonade and vodka we were going burn through, we would have keenly sought sponsorships beforehand. Unfortunately Simply Lemonade never honed in on the reason behind their sales’ spike. The lack of company reimbursements won’t hold me back from singing the praises, though.
What makes this summer cocktail essential? First of all, it’s easy. No one wants to be excessively taxed during sweltering summer weather. Pour, ice, dunzo.
Summertime generally calls for transportable cocktails (ie. boats, camping, beaches, concerts, picnics). Since the Essential Summer Lemonade Cocktail requires only a few ingredients, they’re easy to brink along. Or, you can do what we did, use the lemonade containers to mix it up beforehand for ready-made drinks. In Colorado these drinks were transported to concerts, visiting old friends, and for post-hike refreshments.
Lastly, this cocktail’s flavor screams summer drinking. They’re refreshing, not too sweet, too tart, and you can sip on them for long periods of time (like a five day kid-free vacation). The balance of flavors, though, does seem to be contingent on using Simple Lemonade. We did try other lemonades, but they tasted overly sweet and syrupy. The splash of Simply Limeade really helps to cut the sweetness too.
Cheers and enjoy!
